Your own wallbox: This is what you need to consider

Purchasing their own charging station for home gives drivers of e-cars the freedom of no longer having to rely on public terminals. But simply buying a wallbox, the majority of which now offer excellent quality and safety standards, is not enough. For installation, e-car drivers need the support of a specialist company like bellatec.

The extent to which the topic of e-mobility has gained in importance is shown by the data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority from 2021: almost every seventh new registration is a pure e-car. Electric vehicles are increasingly being charged in front of the garage at home or in private parking spaces. According to the Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft85 percent of all charging processes now take place in private homes.

Private wallboxes are safe and reliable

The wallbox, which is used to conveniently charge the e-car and get it ready for the next trip, has therefore arrived in private households just as much as the importance of the mobility transition itself. However, buying a charging station is not enough, even if these are now beyond all quality and safety doubts and have been confirmed in product tests by ADAC and Stiftung Warentest as the most convenient and sustainable solution. By the way: Among the top three of both tests are proven wallbox partners of bellatec: go-e, easee, wallbox.com.

Even if the installation of the home wallbox incurs further costs due to the necessary use of a specialist company such as bellatec: In the medium term, the own charging solution is always worthwhile compared to a combustion engine vehicle.

Charging station on your own doorstep

However, there are a few general conditions around the private wallbox
that operators of charging stations on their own doorstep need to consider. Thanks to years of expertise and numerous successful installations of charging stations for private and business customers, bellatec provides valuable support here and is available to customers in word and deed at every stage of the realization of a private charging solution.

Location

First and foremost, it should be clear where exactly the wallbox is to be installed. An existing power line near the planned location saves effort and costs. In addition, care should be taken to ensure a dry, preferably roofed location, as precipitation, freezing temperatures or direct sunlight can lead to wear and fatigue of the wallbox material in the long term. Another advantage is that the distance between the wallbox and the vehicle to be charged should be as short as possible.

Charging power

While some e-models can handle a maximum charging power of 11 kilowatts, others can handle 22 kilowatts. Wallbox buyers should be aware of the individual charging power and follow the specifications of the vehicle. While 11-kilowatt wallboxes only need to be registered with their own network operator, wallboxes with 22 kilowatts of charging power only require the appropriate approval. This is one of the many services that bellatec provides for its customers as part of the installation.

Installation

Wallboxes may only be installed by a specialist company like bellatec. There are good reasons for this, as significantly more power comes from charging stations than from the usual domestic socket.
The following applies to the installation itself: The more complex, the more costs the wallbox operator will incur. The cost depends on various criteria: Charging station, delivery and installation must be taken into account, as well as any earthmoving, wall breakthroughs or cable lengths. In addition, there are the costs of registration or approval with the network operator. Additionally, the costs per hour of work can vary considerably from region to region. As a professional and experienced specialist company, bellatec supports its customers at all times and reliably implements individually tailored solutions for the customer at top conditions.

Tenants and homeowners

Even if a general legal entitlement has existed since 2020 in the presence of a separate, co-rented parking space: before installing a wallbox in apartment buildings, there is no way around obtaining permission from the landlord or owners’ association for tenants or apartment owners. The charging costs are subsequently borne by the tenant or apartment owner and billed via the electricity meter of the apartment in question.

Funding

Even though the KfW subsidy program for private wallboxes is currently no longer running and a new edition of this subsidy is currently not in sight: In some cases, there are subsidy programs at the state or municipal level. bellatec is also available to provide advice and will explore possible subsidy options for customers.
